For those that know me well, Exercise, uh well, has never been my virtue... I think the longest I've exercised was when I played basketball in elementary/jr high school. LOL! As a result though, I've been up and down the scales for weight and definately don't have any endurance to speak of. So I made a decision to get this weight off and try to be more healthy. Oh yeah, the month or so that I did curves and then found out I was pregnant with Meaghan.
So as a gift, Dad and Sue gave Mike and I a family membership to our church gym. Also, Mike has just started a new schedule at work, where he's working earlier, getting off most times at 3:30. So he is now able to get from work to the church, exercise himself at the church gym and then come home and he can feed the kids and Sue comes over and picks me up to go do an hour of exercise too, yet still being home before bedtime for the kids to help with that.
So on Wednesday we went to the High School for the water aerobics class. Great place, but apparently the instructor had quit, so the class was now $2 a session and self led. So Sue, myself, and one other lady was there on our own. The other lady took off and said she was goign to the next town over, which has a water aerobics class later at night, 8-9pm. Sue and I decided to go ahead and get in and we'd do that movements I could vaguely remember from my couple of classes I took when pregnant with Katie. So we did some of those, and we actually had a really good time. We chatted, worked out, and had that whole section of the pool to ourselves! :D I got up yesterday morning kinda feeling it, but blissfully NOT sore to the point of hobbling like a penguin. The water aerobics is on Mondays and Wednesdays, so we decided to go to the church gym tonight, of which Sue went ahead and got a membership for the gym too, and we both worked out. I did a little bit over 16 minutes for a mile on the treadmill to start out, then moved over to the recumbant bike. I couldnt get the programming set to a comfortable level, or really even set for that matter, so after 5 minutes of fooling with it, I got off of that. I then moved over to the eliptical and punched the on button there and lasted about 10 minutes there, 2/3rds of the way through the first "hill" on the weight loss programming and I was done for. I hit the off button and climbed off, beet red in the face and definately pretty warm. Sue was working on her app and we went on out to the gym itself and walked the track, where Honey got in the two laps with me before we headed off.I'm really happy with how our schedule has worked out and having the accountablity factor there with Sue going with. It's keeping me motivated to do it, as I know I was sure thinking with the storms and wetness we've had all day, that I'd like to stay home tonight. Honestly though, I sure am glad I went, as I feel better now for it, though I think I will be feeling a little more than I want in the morning, but we'll work through it. :D
Ugh, in the last week, we've hit a new phase in Alex's life and not exactly a fun one. Independence and Temper Tantrums.
With both girls, the "Three's" were 10x's worse than the "Two's",and this is proving to be the case with Alex too (I say this is the three's since he'll be 3 in 2 months). So far I've just let him throw his fit, completely ignoring him. I just let him go until he can't go anymore and then will try to talk to him, as until then it's pretty much pointless. Once he's worn himself out, I'll try to talk to him, clean up his snotty face and then he usually wants a hug and to be held for a bit and calms down.
Each day this week we've had at least one full blown temper tantrum. I'm talking on the floor, screeching, screaming, mad at the world, kicking, inconsolable full blown fit. And man, he makes them last a good while too, a good 30-45 minutes. *sigh* The girls had thier fits, but gosh, this boy thing takes it all to a whole new level.
Tuesday, we really had a rough day and had fielded three of them by naptime at noon. Needless to say both kids got naps and I was desperately wanting one for sure! I didn't get one but I was sure wishing I had!
I have to mention though that I think a lot of this is coming from the new found independence and self sufficence that has been discovered on his part though. There's been a lot of milestones hit in the last few weeks too, for a toddler that is. Some things he's done for the first time in the last few weeks/month:
Opening the doors despite the doorknob covers (which has lead to the need for a key locking door knob on the bathroom closet for the medicines and stuff)
Riding his tricycle- able to pedal quickly
Pushing himself on the big kid swing on the swingset
Pushing the button & opening the diaper pail lid by himself (lid is broken, you have to do both)
Dressing from head to toe by himself, including velcro shoes/sandals
Buttoned up his pj shirt all on his own (did this Wednesday night)
Overcoming his fear of the sprinkler
Going all day without an accident in his training pants (except the pullup he wore at nap time)- Did this yesterday
So all in all it seems that he's fight/getting upset more on things mainly because he wants to do it on his own, or if you tell him he's not allowed to do something. So all in all, as long as he's not hurting himself or hitting things around him, I try to divert it to begin with, but that's proving more difficult as he's getting more and more stubborn like his parents can be.... ;)
But with Potty Training, he has been doing very well, as we started it out as a game. I set the kitchen timer I have and when that timer goes off, Katie and Alex had made it a game to see who could get to the bathroom the fastest (yes watch out for the herds tearing through the hosue when the timer goes off) and then they'd both go potty. Then was the rewards, Hi fives for successes, 1 jelly bean for pee'ing, 2 for doing number 2. So since we've done that all week, Katie doesn't even have to race him anymore, the timer goes off and he's running for the bathroom. So far he has done very well in that we take the timer with us outside and he'll stop what he's doing to come in and go to the potty, so we've had excellent success this week with it, as yesterday although he'd already did number 2 before I got him out of his nighttime pull up, he went all day wearing the same trainer, except for the pull up for nap time. :) It was NIIIICCCCEEEEEE!!!!!! :D
So we'll see how he does today- as he has yet to do his morning number 2 but is in his trainers. and if we have the continued success he had yesterday, will probably start stretching that time out beyond the 45 minutes I have it at right now.
Wish us luck!
Yeah I know, I bombarded you all with posts and pictures yesterday, but have more to come today. :) Get ready for a handful more today.
I got a birthday present of a flat screen tv for our bedroom! yay! Really like it, and now that Mike has traded Marland for the 19 inch flat panel monitor, we are pretty set! WOOT WOOT!
It was sooo cool as we got rid of two towers, the laptop, and a printer that's been in the garage for a bit now, Yippeee! So nice to get rid of stuff and get something in return that we needed!
Now we just have to get the corner desk finished to put the Mac on and for Mike to re-load it with its operating system since something seems to have gone haywire with it. We'll put the Mac on that desk and get what was our old server system set up for the kids too with a flat panel, leaving room on the desk Mike made for the kids. :)
So it's been a good few days, with LOTS going OUT of the garage. :D So we are getting closer and closer to getting the garage cleared out. :) Thank you, Thank you,Thank you for the monitor!!!!Mike is also working to try to get that stuff done before we tell the girls next week where we are going, so they can surf that Disney website and look to see what they are interested in going to see/ride. :)
Katie has ALWAYS been a huge fan of the Indy Racing League cars, inspired by her daddy and his love for the races too. Plus, being in Indiana, you can't help it when you are right at the heart of racing with the Indianapolis Speedway.
So we'd just let Katie stay up and watch the Indy 500. I say just let her stay UP, because for everyone that's outside of the central Indiana area, you can watch the race live as it happens. Us central IN hoosiers have to wait for the showing to come on at 8pm, running to about 1am. We can listen to it on the radio, if you dont mind knowing who won, or you are dodging all radios and such until you watch it that night.
But anyway, we'd let Katie stay up to watch the race and amazingly she did indeed stay awake for the whole thing, even though she had a HARD soccer game that morning. So not too long after, Katie's best friend Leah came over for the afternoon to play and I'd ordered a memory foam mattress topper for our bed. It came in this huge rectangular box, of which within 10 seconds of getting the topper out of the box, the kids were asking for it to play with. (Mike keeps saying he's going to start a business of selling boxes as toys, as they are so much more popular with all of our kids than most other things! LOL!)
So with the box it became the "Racecar", decorated in true girl power, with flowers, complete with steering wheel and stick shifters and sponsorships (unfortunately, I don't think I got a picture of the finished product, what is below is the beginning stages):
